I came home from work early tonight, suffering from the effects of a sinus infection picked up while vacationing in South Carolina, and found that my results had been processed much quicker than anticipated and here is what they indicated:
99% European
-- 58% Great Britain
-- 33% Irish
-- 5% Western Europe
-- 2 % Scandinavian (Primarily - Sweden, Norway, Denmark, but including Great Britain, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, the Baltic States, Finland.)
-- 1 % Iberian Peninsula (Primarily Spain and Portugal, but including France, Morocco, Algeria and Italy.)
.... and a trace of central Asian. (Primary Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, but including Pakistan, Iran, India and Western China).
Overall, I'm not surprised with the results. With the names of ancestors I've encountered, its always been obvious that they migrated over from mostly Great Britain and Ireland. I'm intrigued by those categorized as "trace regions," which are those under 5%. In particular, it makes me wonder how a trace of less than 1%, if accurate, brought someone into my ancestry that possibly ventured in via the Silk Road. Maybe that minute trace is my link to all things Asian. On a more objective note, it did put to bed rumors I heard about a Cherokee great-grandmother, as I'm sure that would have showed up clearly and it was ruled out completely. In genealogy records I had found on her, it always indicated she was Caucasian, so the proof to the naysayers who didn't believe my research, the DNA doesn't lie.
