Now, I would hope that the law finally offers acceptable justice to the family of the deceased, as nobody should have to see their loved ones killed due to gross negligence again, and not be awarded the peace of mind that they won't be back on the road for a third crack at taking another life anytime soon.
I really am sick of the prevalence of drugs and alcohol in today's society, and yet I have to read another newspaper article saying that marijuana will be legalized in as many as 5 states by this time next year. You know society is open to all sorts of evil when it continues to bend and sway to beat of so called "progress" when it serves absolutely no good or meaningful purpose towards the common good of all men. Thousands of brands of alcohol aren't enough to take people out of their minds (let alone put many innocent people in their graves), so we go and legalize something that in my opinion (you can consider this expert testimony as I've used both) is worse. "Pot" slows down reaction time far more than drinking, and to think how many more people will have to die due to the assinine decisions of our voters, lawmakers, and sadly - the Supreme Court.
Beware of what you wish for America, because if pot can be made legal, what is next? I'm sure coke, heroin, crack and whatever else each have some low medicinal value and the druggies next door and in Congress will find a way to exploit it. How low have we become that we no longer give a crap about the welfare of our families, when it is pitted against the release from reality that a few tokes can give us?
Sadly, what we send out in the world comes back to us and few people in today's America can say that they remained unscathed from the ill effects of drugs and alcohol. I pray that my friend's family and closer friends that I find some solace and peace in the memories that remain of her. She was funny, quick-witted, and had a certain charisma about her that made you appreciate the untold stories that shaped the person that you came to know and admire. Most of my time around her was in a creative writing class, and then later through meetings with a mutual friend. One of those last times, we gave her a humorous statue as a gift that actually looked like her. The wit in the message was spot-on and she loved it. I saw her only one time after that and it was merely a hug, a few mentions of life's ups and downs and now she is gone. I only wish I had more memories of her.... R.I.P. DPR.
