“Power attracts the corruptible. Suspect any who seek it.”
-- Frank Herbert, Chapterhouse: Dune
Four years after the newly re-elected President took office, there has been no justice for Americans, particularly the hard working populace who does not fall under the luxurious blanket of Congressional or Executive priviledge. What a sham that the President would shy away from initial promises of prosecuting those on Wall Street that surely caused him more sleeplessness than anything currently on his plate. While offering up nearly one trillion dollars in borrowed Chinese Yen as a peace offering for them to fix the mess they themselves created, I have to assume that offering yet another enticement, in the form of freedom from prosecution would somehow encourage them to right the ship and play by the rules. I assume that people in these higher tax brackets aren't as suseptible to "moral hazard" as the rest of the population and can be trusted to safely police themselves of any wrong doing. Maybe I'm wrong to assume as the old adage states that when you assume, you make an "ass" of "u" and "me, but isn't it the Department of Justice's job to prosecute criminals? Or is my blog title right on target when spoken by those in positions of power? I guess the current administration believes a pat on the back and a vocal reprimand goes a whole lot further to change human nature than does actual punishment to fit the crime. What happened to consequences for ones actions? What happened to elected officials enforcing the laws on the books to protect those who voted them into office? I think I can answer that by changing one tiny preposition in a former best selling book title, thus making it read, "The Audacity to Hope." The more things change in the White House, the more they remain the same....
